The Highlands of Scotland has a great many activities on offer, all of which we would be happy to arrange for you, below you will find just some of the sports available:

GOLF
Many of the top courses in the north of Scotland are within a forty mile radius of the house. Go north and admire the stunning views of Brora, Golspie and Tain all of which are pay and play courses. Or play the highest regarded course in the area, Royal Dornoch with stunning views over the Dornoch Firth, recently rated in the top fifteen courses in the world. Head south towards Inverness and choose from Fortrose & Rosemarkie, Nairn, the Walker Cup venue in 1999 and Nairn Dunbar, a highly rated championship links course, offering some of the best golfing land in the area.

FISHING

For Salmon and Trout Fishing or guided Fly Fishing excursions we recommend local fishing professionals TroutQuest. Enjoy guided excursions to fish for salmon on the River Alness or brown trout on one of the many beautiful lochs in the area. TroutQuest has access to prime salmon & sea trout fishing on the private beats of the River Alness and can offer Assynt House guests weekly or day permits subject to availability. If you aren't familiar with fishing, fly fishing instruction is available on a private stocked lochan on the nearby Novar Estate. We can also arrange for private beats on the River Alness where TroutQuest will be delighted to teach any of your group. Your days fishing includes transport to and from the house.

SHOOTING
Whether it's a days grouse, pheasant or clay-pigeon shoot or a full week of stalking on some of the Highlands best estates, we can arrange hunting trips for your party with qualified professionals.

HILL WALKING
Explore the local area to its full and enjoy the great outdoors by taking either a short local walk like the ones below or why not take a guided walk, where you will be joined by a professional who can show you some hidden treasures and tell you more about the area which surrounds you, we can also meet you with a picnic lunch half-way to give you a chance to re-charge!

LOCAL WALKS

Standing on nearby Fyrish Hill is an unusual Indian Gateway Monument, built in the late eighteenth century by the orders of Sir Hector Munro, a steep incline but very manageable with wonderful views of the Cromarty Firth and the surrounding area.

The Black Rock of Novar
Deep within a wooded glen, a comfortable walk from the house, lies the Black Rock Gorge, formed during the last Ice Age, glacial meltwater cut deep into the bedrock to form this remarkable ravine, well worth a look. (some filming for Harry Potter & The Goblet of Fire film also took place here).

Loch Glass
Walk up into the hills with mountain back-drops, the road from Assynt will take you to Loch Glass which is a wonderfully peaceful walk. You could also take a challenging bike ride to the loch and its downhill all the way home!

Ben Wyvis
Reserved for the more experienced walker, the 3432ft Ben Wyvis (‘Wyvis’ is Gaelic for ‘Enormous’)! is a haven for alpine flora and unusual mountain birds and offers fantastic views of the North East Highlands.

DOLPHIN & WILDLIFE WATCHING & BOAT CRUISES
Take a boat trip out in the Moray Firth and go Dolphin watching and see some of our wildlife up close, including seals and red kites. You could also take a sunset boat trip with wine and BBQ for your party or walk out to Chanantry Point to see if you can spot bottlenose dolphins at the turn of the tide.

CANOEING & GORGE WALKING
Choose from a relaxing, serene canoe trip which can be tailored for the whole family or an adrenaline filled afternoon in more challenging waters. If you really want to get wet try gorge walking, it's not as scary as it sounds! We recommend local company Boots 'n' Paddles for canoeing, gorge walking and many of the outdoor sports available.

SKIING
The Highland destination for Skiing is Aviemore, which is just 30 miles south of Inverness, a perfectly manageable day-out from Assynt House. You don't need to have any of our own equipment or clothing and the slopes cater for beginners and experienced skiers alike. There is also ski instruction available.

You don't have to worry if you are a beginner, archery is great fun for all ages and abilities, local instructors will guide you through the techniques before any light hearted competition begins!
