There is great fishing available locally, whether you would like to fish for the week or afternoon. Enjoy guided excursions to fish for salmon on the River Alness or brown trout on one of the many beautiful lochs in the area with local professionals TroutQuest, who have access to prime salmon & sea trout fishing on the private beats of the River Alness.  If you aren't familiar with fishing, fly fishing instruction is available on a private stocked lochan on the nearby Novar Estate. They can also arrange tuition and rod hire.

The River Alness is one of the most picturesque salmon rivers in the Highlands, running for just 11 miles from Loch Morie into the Cromarty Firth, with a drop of 600ft. The steep descent provides for a multitude of fast flowing pools, and stunning and varied scenery throughout the beats. The Novar Fishings comprises 6½ miles of double-banked salmon fishing split into 6 rotating beats which are all fished during a week’s fishing, though shorter lets are also available.

The Alness is a hunter’s river; ‘rivercraft’ and persistence are generally rewarded, and long casting is rarely needed. Beginners can do particularly well here, and there are typically 20-30 ‘first salmon’ caught annually on Novar. The 5-year average for Novar is 424 salmon & grilse per year. Very comfortable base for our fishing, shooting and walking expeditions, the icing on the cake.
