Just the two of us…

An expert in elopements and intimate weddings, photographer, Lynne Kennedy has photographed many beautiful weddings at Assynt House. Here, she talks micro-weddings…

“A small wedding may be something that you were already planning, but for many couples, the implications from the COVID-19 virus have resulted in their bigger plans being at best, postponed or at worst, cancelled.  Rules on social distancing now mean that larger, traditional weddings just aren’t going to be possible, for the foreseeable future.

Some couples are resigned to waiting up to a year or more for their dream day because they still want to be able to invite all their loved ones and friends, and that is total understandable. However, if you just can’t wait to say,  “I Do”, to your partner, then perhaps an elopement or an intimate wedding – or a micro wedding as they are also known - could be your answer.

Although they have been gaining in popularity over the last few years, elopements and intimate weddings are undoubtedly going to become the new norm in the wedding world for at least a while, so if it’s something you haven’t considered yet, then perhaps it’s time to have a think about it.

If you choose to elope, or have an intimate wedding, that doesn’t mean that your day is less important and it doesn’t mean you can’t still have the amazing gown, and the beautiful accessories and the stylish table décor and the fabulous cake. You can still have all that. Then at a later date, if you wish, you can plan a larger party, get your fabulous wedding clothes on again and dance the night away with your nearest and dearest.  So,  essentially it’s two chances to celebrate instead of one – what’s not to like?

There are some incredible locations around the Highlands of Scotland where you can make your marriage vows. A beautiful, white sandy beach with the sound of the sea in your ears, or a heather covered mountainside, secluded enough that you would think you were the only people for miles around. What about getting married in the middle of a woodland, surrounded by trees whispering in the Highland breeze? The woodland which surrounds Assynt House is very special indeed. The opportunities for privacy for your ceremony and epic landscapes for your photographs are limited only to your imagination and how adventurous you are!”
