Our Green Story
Assynt House is a family run, independent accommodation provider, renting not by the room but the entire house for special occasions, family holidays and bespoke weddings.
For over 20 years we have shared this special place with our guests and It has always been important for us to sit quietly within our community, operating in a way that supports local people and businesses without disrupting the natural rhythm of rural life which makes the location so appealing.
We have a small local team who work with us to ensure that Assynt House sits gently in the stunning environment doing as much as we can to ensure we are as sustainable as possible and always looking ahead to how we can become even better.
We have always responded quickly to industry advice over the years, switching to LED lighting, encouraging our guests to recycle and reduce waste and making energy improvements such as the addition of solar panels and plans to install more.
Our biggest challenge is heating such a large historical property in the most sustainable way. Currently we rely on oil central heating and are looking into alternatives. Our solar panels have made a positive impact and have recently converted our traditional oil fired AGA to electric.
We support local food suppliers when catering for our guests. Our tradespeople are local, where possible. We support local charities and our local Primary School.
Our plans for the future include EV charging facilities, alternative heating systems, the addition of more solar panels and engaging with our guests to help them to make more sustainable choices.
